Antique pectoral crucifix shows a detailed crucified Jesus with rays and a skull with crossbones below his feet. This would have been worn around the neck of a member of the clergy. On the back of the cross is a sacred heart medallion wrapped in a crown of thorns. Made of silver tone metal with an inlaid ebony wood crucifix.
According to ancient tradition, the burial place of Adam was at Golgotha (the "Place of the Skull"), directly beneath where Christ was crucified. The placement of the skull at the base symbolizes Christ's victory over sin and death, which was brought into the world by Adam.
Likely made in Germany but has no markings, likely because it predates the laws requiring that.
