Demétre Haralamb Chiparus (1886–1947) was a Romanian Art Deco master sculptor who lived and worked in Paris during the flowering of the Art Deco movement and the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, where Art Deco takes it's name. He was one of the most important sculptors of the era, the master of the chryselephantine bronze sculpture technique, a hallmark of the era.
Chiparus's work embodies the spirit of Art Deco at its most lively and decorative best, capturing the joie de vivre of the Jazz Age, his erotic and daring dancers were the single most important source for Chiparus's delightful figures. The author defines Art Deco, establishing its antecedents in Art Nouveau, Cubism, and Futurism, and describing the various contemporary inspirations for Chiparus.
Previously unpublished details of the life of Chiparus are recorded in this book (until now not even his birth and death dates had been firmly established)

Book is in great vintage condition. Pages are bold and bright, free of marks and foxing. Binding is tight. The dust jacket shows some very minimal shelf and edge wear. The actual hardcover looks great.
