This rare antique Victorian taxidermy model panther toy is a "life-like" miniature. It has a real fur likely goat skin, stretched over a form, on a very light wood and possible paper mache. It's stitched under the body, inside the legs and up the back- visible from the back and if you turn it over but mostly out of view. The piece features glass eyes and realistic teeth.
This is a very unique, rare and collectible piece, a great gift for the oddities collector, or display piece for the dark academia or gothic home.
A Brief History of Taxidermy Toys: Taxidermy toys were popular from 1860-1900. These were mostly sold as souvenirs at the zoos. They were very expensive in their time. During the Victorian era, people were fascinated by nature, plants, animals, insects, etc, and taxidermy was in fashion. These handmade children’s curios were highly prized.
